Lois Lowry

Lois Lowry born as Lois Ann Hammersberg in  20th March, 1937. It is an American writer of many excellent books. She created more than thirty children's books. She was two times awarded by Newbery Medals, for Number the Stars, which was published in 1989 and The Giver in 1993.

She was born in Honolulu, Hawaii. Her parents Katherine Gordon and Robert E. Hammersburg, her mother was from Norwegian descent and her mother was from German, English and Scotch-Irish. Lois has one older sister Helen and a younger brother Jon. Her sister died when she was 28 years old because of cancer- this made her to write her first book A Summer to Die. This book was about a girl, how she lost her older sister. Which is quite sad book, but very nice. Relationship between Helen, Lois and Jon was very nice and close, but after Helen died it was very hard for them. After a while Lois and Jon founded a way how to be still close.
Lois also her self has 3 children in her first marriage, but now she is divorced from 1956-1977. She is being very careful with them, because she is scared of children's death before hers.

Her career then begun in 1977, when her first book was published. Then she mainly started to write books for children. She still writes fantasy books for children, that many people like to read.
