Tuesday, 21 January 2014
World War I was the first very big war that included almost all countries on the world. This was also known as the First World War, was a global war centred in Europe that began on 28 July 1914 and lasted until 11 November 1918. The war drew in all the world's economic great powers.
The war approached a resolution after the Russian government collapsed in March 1917 and a subsequent revolution in November brought the Russians to terms with the Central Powers. After a 1918 German offensive along the western front, the Allies drove back the Germans in a series of successful offensives and American forces began entering the trenches.

Important events of Lois Lowry
It's 20th March, we are in Honolulu (Hawaii) and Lois Ann Lowry is born...
1948:
The Hammesberg's family is moving to Japan, where father needs to go to war...
1954-1956:
Almost all family is in New York City, except of their father, which stayed in Japan. Lois goes there on Brown University... It's 1956 and Lois is already married to Donald Grey Lowry.
1958-1962:
It's 1958 and Lois is pregnant with Donadl- they are having their first boy baby Alix.. Now we come 3 years later to her house and we can see there 4 children- Alix, Grey, Kristin and Benajmin.. It's 1962 and one of the sadest thing that could happen to Lois- her sister Helen dies from cancer
1977:
Lois gets divorced, but she published her first and excellent novel Summer to Die. She mainly wrote this book about her sister...

1990-1994:
Lois receives her first and not last Newbery Medal for Number the Stars...In next four years she gets another Newbery Medal for book The Giver.
This is about it.. These are the main things about Lois Lowry, which I already talked about in the last review.. Lois was most of her life travelling around the world, not only when she was small (with her family, because of father's work) but also when she was adult, but now it was because of her work.
So this is Lois Lowry life and if you didn't read any of her books, I really recommend you to read something from her.

Lois Lowry
Lois Lowry born as Lois Ann Hammersberg in 20th March, 1937. It is an American writer of many excellent books. She created more than thirty children's books. She was two times awarded by Newbery Medals, for Number the Stars, which was published in 1989 and The Giver in 1993.

Lois also her self has 3 children in her first marriage, but now she is divorced from 1956-1977. She is being very careful with them, because she is scared of children's death before hers.
Her career then begun in 1977, when her first book was published. Then she mainly started to write books for children. She still writes fantasy books for children, that many people like to read.

The Giver
Book " The Giver" wrote Lois Lowry. Book was published in 1993. This book won 1994 Newbery Medal and has sold more than 5.3 copies.
It is about a 12 years old boy Jonas, who has one younger 8 years old sister. They live in a community in which their work will be chosen by government, when they are 12 years old. His best friend Asher, is also 12 and they are preparing on ceremony- which will announce their work.
Jonas wanted to work at elders house, because in his free time, he was helping old people with their problems. The night before his big day (day of ceremony) his emotions were getting up and down. He was excited about it, but also scared what job he will do. The next day he wasn't scared anymore, his all family was supporting him that he will get what he wants to be.
Do you want to know what work he was given, read this great book, which is also full of surprise, emotions and interests...
